These are just a few of Mayla’s favorite things. Mayla is not a tomboy by any stretch of the imagination but she does spend nearly every minute of her day trying to keep up with her older brother. As a result she isn't a dainty quiet little thing either. Just like Zander she is often the ring leader. She has all of the other little girls at school playing with snails on the playground too. They round them up and put them inside the little plastic playhouse. Once the snails are in the little house they then play "mommy and baby" with them. At home she loves for me to do yard work because then she can run around and search for snails in the bushes. We have a lot of them so by the time I’m done she has collected an entire community of them. They’re usually crawling all over each other and all over her.
Mayla is a BIG time nose picker. She’s always digging around in there despite the countless reasons I come up with as to why it’s not a good idea. We were driving along the other day and she said in her sweet little voice, “mama, I love boogers.” I just sighed and said, “I know Mayla.” I’ve given up on it for now as I assume one day she will realize through peer pressure that booger eating is not well regarded by society.
And while she loves all of these rather gross things she also adores all things cute, cuddly and princess-like. She loves to dress up and pretend to be a princess or a ballerina. She is simply smitten by any kind of baby animal. She'll tell you spontaneously all through out the day that she loves you and will shower you with the sweetest little kisses.
I love watching Mayla's personality develop. It can be a wild ride at times but it is endlessly entertaining too. I'm especially amused by the funny balance she is striking between that tough girl that can hold her own with her brother and the sweet little girl that you just want to scoop up and cuddle all day.
